The Trip To Bathurst

May 27th, 2010  |  Published in Hodge

Since we had very limited time in Australia for the World Time Attack Challenge, Joey set up a fairly stringent itinerary of visits and tours around the Sydney area.  Since we landed down under in the morning, we had pretty much all day to get something done.  After picking up the Ford from the dealership, we headed out on the 2-hour journey to Bathurst, home of Mount Panorama Motor Racing Circuit.

The “problem” wasn’t finding Bathurst.  We had the benefit of modern technology with the GPS unit in the dash of the Falcon, so finding it wasn’t an issue.  We drove through such wonderful areas of lush foliage, trees, and rock formations that it was distracting!  We couldn’t help but find a dirt road with bushes and indigenous Australian greenery to do a quick photoshoot with Ford Australia’s Falcon F6E.  The road we chose was an access road to what seemed to be two farms or liveries.  On one side of the road was a wide open polo ground, and on the other was a field with several grazing steeds wearing professional warming coats.  Serious stuff here!

After grabbing some video footage and stills, we continued out to Bathurst.  By now I’d grown pretty hungry, since the last meal I had was on the plane nearly five hours earlier.  At that, the “breakfast” wasn’t exactly one to keep my mind off of food.

The only thing to keep us occupied for the next hour or so was the radio.  Australians have a strange affection to classic American rock & roll.
