I’ve been to a few skate competitions, one of the largest being the one held in conjunction with the US Open of Surfing in Huntington Beach.
This event, by far, had me stoked beyond normalcy.
To hear that one of the organizers, epic Christian Hosoi, who I used to see at the Marina Skate Park all the time in the 80′s, was behind this event should have been enough to excite me. What really did it was the crowd’s energy, the competitors giving it their all, and seeing them really push themselves to land big airs and hectic tricks.
I apologize for these images lacking the kind of quality you may have come to expect from me, but this was a total last-minute event and I didn’t have access to the “inside”… so all of these shots are taken from outside the course.
“Mella” and I went to go support Trevor Erickson, a grom who’s been getting noticed in the local HB skate scene for his dedication and passion for skating and learning new tricks. Way to go, T-REV!!
Kudos to everyone involved with this event, for getting it organized and making it fun for everyone on both sides of the fence.
