The Fun Part Of Weddings

The owners of a local salon asked if I would be interested in doing some photography for their website. Always embracing a challenge, I took them up on the offer and discovered a newfound photographic interest.
Like most professional salons, they offer wedding packages for the bride and her crew to get everything done for that special day. They are greeted with champagne or exotic imported teas and are treated to the works, from a facial to mani/pedi treatment, makeup and hair. All services are done prior to the event as a “dry run”, so that there are no surprises when the actual wedding day arrives for either side.
For me, it was a great experience. I got to see what a bride goes through, and now understand how it is they transform into “bridezillas”. The more organized and detailed the salon crew is, the less the bride has to worry about.
On the photographic side of things, it was a humongous ball of Pain In The ARSE to shoot. The human aspect had nothing to do with it; the salon has light, creme colored walls torched by a mix of halogen, incandescent, and fluorescent bulbs that hang from fixtures above on tracks. Everything from the waist-down in the salon is dark; the floors are dark koa-style woodgrain, the stations are dark walnut, the chairs are a richly vibrant red, and it seemed that everyone wanted to wear back attire that day. The day will come when I can stroll into an on-location shoot with three high powered strobes, umbrellas and softboxes, and portable power all triggered through an RF unit.
Anyway, its something different for me to cover, and I thought I’d post up the images. Sydney and Christina play the bride and maid-of-honor respectively. Fallyn and Jessie are the stylists in action. I’m the photographer. My name is Duano.
